Hi- I am so glad you’re here! I am the person and counselor behind The Coping Corner, LLC.
I received my bachelor's degree in Spanish Linguistics and my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University (2012) and went on to receive a Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Georgia (2014). While there, I trained to be a Child Life Specialist, completing practicum and an internship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I became certified in 2014.
Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS) are trained professionals in developmental theories, therapeutic play, preparation and education, specific to healthcare, trauma, transition, and grief experiences. I have practiced as a CCLS since 2014 in the areas of: trauma and emergencies, acute care, neonatal intensive care, radiology, and hematology and oncology. I have had the privilege of walking with families through some of their most challenging, scary, and defining moments.
I was amazed by the resiliency and strength of kids and teens I worked with, especially when they were given the opportunity to make choices, participate and become advocates in their care, and process their experiences. I returned to school to complete my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Central Florida (2019). While there I pursued the specialization of Play Therapy and completed a clinical internship at a treatment facility for children and teens who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. I have also pursued additional training in sand tray therapy and am a Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy. Through all of these experiences, the power of play to help children express, process, and heal has been incredibly clear. And it is central to my approach to helping kids, teens, and families cope with the stressors and hardships in their lives.
I feel passionate about the ability of people of al ages being able to cope and own their stories when provided with a supportive, non-judgmental, and therapeutic environment.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, as well as a Qualified Supervisor for MHC interns, and believe in evidenced-based practice and continuing education so that I can provide the best care for you and your family.
For counseling to be successful, children and teens need to feel comfortable, heard, seen, and understood. Rapport building and the relationship with the therapist are incredibly important to the therapeutic process. However, even more important, is the relationship between you and your child or teen, as their caregiver. I believe in looking for opportunities to celebrate and enhance that feeling of being understood within families.
I believe in the agency of kids and teens, the importance of allowing space for big feelings, and opportunities for choice and control whenever possible in the therapy room for the development of confidence and self-esteem.
My approach is child/teen centered and informed by development, the brain, and attachment. I believe that we all, regardless of age, have the ability to cope and do hard things, if given the opportunity.
At The Coping Corner, LLC, I believe in collaboration and promise to include you in the treatment planning process.
I promise to use evidence-based interventions and commit to partnering with you and your child/teen in their healing.
Coping skills, once developed, are universal.
What is learned in counseling and play therapy, can be be used by your child or teen throughout their lives, beyond our time together.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is is an evidenced based therapeutic technique to help people heal from traumatic or other difficult life events.
